General Optical Council had outgrown their London office which lacked the in-house facilities they needed to operate effectively. As a health and social care regulator, General Optical Council wanted a space to suit both their office staff as well as visitors who are involved with hearings and meetings.
We created a standalone private hearing suite which consists of six distinct meeting rooms, waiting rooms and a tea point. This space is totally independent from the rest of the office and frosted glazing and exceptional acoustic features ensure privacy.
Drop down seals to doors, double glazing and slab to slab partitioning minimise sound transmission so staff can concentrate. Within the private hearing suite, and throughout the office, we installed full AV equipment, hearing loops, recording equipment and video conferencing. All these features and facilities combine to provide General Optical Council with modern offices and business technology.
Totally separate to the private hearing suite is the main working area for staff. Having previously been spread out over several floors and been compartmentalised, General Optical Council wanted to bring everyone together to improve communication and collaboration. To achieve this, we created an open plan office space which had improved welfare facilities including a large tea point kitchen with a range of seating and street views. We also installed a mix of workstations, acoustic pods informal meetings, separate meeting rooms, and small quiet pods for concentrated working and making private calls.
To celebrate their brand identity, we installed glass manifestation as well as wall graphics from the local environment, which hide secret doors, to brighten up the office interior. To create a sense of arrival, we designed a stylish reception which includes a timber veneer backlit reception desk and a floating ceiling with recess lighting troughs.
Our new home in 10 Old Bailey will bring enormous benefits to the organisation and, in turn, our ability to protect the public.
