Scandinavian style office refurbishment for Nordea Bank

  • Office Refurbishment
  • 16,000 sq ft
  • City of London

The London office for Nordea was tired and in need of modernisation. In addition, their staff were split over two wings which was not helping them bond or communicate.

The company were seeking one larger better-connected office with improved facilities for their staff and international visitors. Following a tender process, Peldon Rose were selected to work in partnership with project managers The Workspace Consultants LLP on this office relocation to Aldermanbury Square in City of London.

The striking office design is inspired by Nordea’s Nordic heritage. Their reception area features elegant light lined timber ceilings and, to celebrate their shipping-finance heritage, we integrated three display cabinets into the walls housing an oil tanker, oil rig boat and a tug. Behind their reception desk is a back-lit feature wall including their logo to create a sense of impact on arrival.

As this was a more technically complex project, our first step was to mobilise our in-house Mechanical & Electrical team who conducted in-depth due diligence to understand the building and its constraints. By being 100% sure of our technical solution, the project team could be certain we created a design solution which was both practical and deliverable.

In addition, our team examined the existing services to identify areas where we could make modifications and enhancements to provide cost efficiencies. One initiative was to install new LED lighting throughout the office space which will provide Nordea with payback within three years.

Bookable meting rooms

Within the main office area, we created four quiet pods for agile working and smaller meetings, as well as larger meeting rooms. These all feature Scandinavian cities and landmarks in photography and artwork. In addition, staff all have allocated lockers which feature beautiful European maps. Our in-house office furniture consultants selected soft seating to compliment the Nordic theme including pieces for the café, quiet pods and selected meeting rooms.

As Nordea have regular international visitors, we designed a reception area with adjoining tea point and board room to act as an impressive hospitality hub, providing guests with all the facilities they could need to work and relax. These spaces are also well used as break out spaces for staff, helping to integrate those who work in London full-time and those who are more transient.

We are delighted with the new office that Peldon Rose has created for us. The striking design really encapsulates our Nordic heritage.
