Peldon Rose have designed a flagship HQ for British American Tobacco (BAT) in Chiswick, London. The workplace is fluent in the language of collaborative design and multifunctional spaces and reaffirms a strong corporate identity for the international company, well-known for its blue and yellow branding.
Creating a sense of arrival was imperative to reflect a business with a heritage of over 100 years, which adopts new and progressive approaches to its products. The reception area thus has a striking presence and boasts a spectrum of visual and tactile features; from the “dismantled”, two-tone exposed concrete reception desk to soft leather furnishings and a colourful, geometric carpet.
A large tea-point and dining area in the centre of the floorplate provides a well-equipped social space for staff to congregate. This is the bustling hub of the office.
Desking was placed around the perimeter of the floor to provide access to natural light and maximise employee health and wellbeing. Different working areas are scattered throughout the office to facilitate agile working, from quiet working zones with soft seating, to high tables and meeting pods, meeting rooms with folding walls, and vast digital screens with tiered seating, for auditorium-style brainstorming sessions and other activity-based working. It goes without saying that all spaces are fit with the highest spec AV technology to support the global, multi-branded business.
