Our vision for the Cat A refurbishment at 140 Old Street for DTZ Investors was to dramatically improve the efficiency and appearance of the property by creating something special inside which would celebrate the history of the property and neighbourhood, therefore making it the stand out option to prospective tenants. By transforming the office space into a beautiful environment, we celebrated the history of the property and embraced the architectural strengths of the building’s stimulating features through a considered Cat A refurbishment.

There was an abundance of natural light available and we centred our design around capturing the light and illuminating the space, making it a fresher, brighter environment. To add more light to the space, we installed suspended lighting with a low profile and less obstructive fitting. This detailing helps to uplift the space and maximise the available ceiling height to showcase the striking architectural detail.

Imagining an artistic office space

Old Street has become a destination for creative industries, attracting designers, creative & digital agencies, furniture designers, cultural institutions and artists. The surrounding artisan coffee shops, pop up street food markets and range of great restaurants and bars have transformed the area. It is a fast-moving, vibrant location that demands that office spaces have something different to make them stand out from the crowd. Our design approach was to embrace all these elements and breathe new life into a tired and old space that was failing to attract tenants.

Traditional design with a fresh perspective

We have created an atmosphere that emphasises the original character of the building whilst also giving it that quintessential London feel. The original brickwork has been exposed to bring a “chic gallery” feel into the space. To complete the space with unique detailing, we installed high specification WCs, distinctive navigational signage, tiling and iron work. The overall result is an office space which stands out from the crowd and makes 140 Old Street the obvious choice for companies looking for new office space.
