Zuora grows with the subscription economy

  • 51 - 200 Employees
  • 9,500 sq ft
  • Soho

Zuora creates cloud-based software on a subscription basis that enables any company in any industry to successfully launch, manage, and transform into a subscription business. After outgrowing their serviced office space, Zuora needed to find a larger office space that supported their plans for growth.

The new London office relocation emphasises their culture of entrepreneurship and personal empowerment with a space that promotes staff collaboration and encourages integration between teams. The new 9,500 sq ft office on Dean Street supports their working culture in a bright office space with a large breakout area and more meeting space to accommodate Zuora’s growth. Zuora were also able to creative with the space, allowing them to fully represent Zuora’s brand identity.

Operating as the new European Headquarters for Zuora, they wanted the space to be identifiable with London so that it would become an impressive destination for visiting staff from around the world. With a geographically diverse workforce, having meeting rooms with video conferencing facilities was important but there also needed to be informal areas for day-to-day team catch ups and phone booths for private calls. To give Zuora’s culture and personality a more tangible presence in their new office, each meeting room is named after a quirky ‘Britishism’ which shows the company’s playful nature and gives the office a distinctive London twist among their other global offices.

Functionality of the space

One of the main requirements for the new office was to offer a greater variety meeting spaces, including private phone booths and large boardrooms with video conferencing facilities. Having added more meeting spaces, we wanted to stop parts of the office becoming compartmentalised and isolated from the rest of the office. To keep the environment connected, we created a ribbon design for the office which removed ownership over communal areas by enabling people to easily move through the space.

This layout enables an organic flow to the space and encourages people to move away from their desks more frequently and embrace the open working style within the office. By connecting the space with walkways, we could utilise the extra space by installing soft seating and high benches to create pockets of usable space as an alternative to formal meeting rooms.

Improving staff wellbeing

The new office space has good exposure to natural light and this was a key consideration when mapping the new layout. The breakout space and desking have been positioned on the perimeter of the space to ensure that staff are benefitting from the available light, and the meeting rooms are in the centre of the office.

Zuora wanted to give their staff an environment that looked after their wellbeing and enabled them to choose from different working areas within the office. Each member of staff was provided with a height adjustable desk to offer staff more flexibility in the ways they work. Staff also have access to drinks and snacks throughout the day in the break area. This helps to keep staff refreshed, but also actively encourages them to take breaks away from their desks and socialise with their colleagues.
