It doesn’t take much to turn a small office space into a creative haven. So we share our eight nice and easy office design steps that will make a massive difference.
1. Let the sun shine in
Countless studies have found that natural light can help to prevent eye strain, SAD and headaches. On the flipside, light helps to boost creativity, energy levels and stimulate creativity. There really is no better vitamin than vitamin D.
2. Clean desk, clean mind
By organising your desk you can cut stress and improve your overall performance. A simple task, but genuinely effective.
3. Splash the colour
Different colours stimulate different areas of the mind, and they can be used to great effect in an office. Yellow increases creativity, green creates calm while red can affect the body. Get those paint brushes out!
Tiny details can make a massive difference to your productivity. Simply raising the height of your chair and aligning your computer screen can make a huge impact.
5. Be cool
Almost half of people suffer from reduced productivity once temperatures exceed 25 degrees Celsius, according to studies. Colder conditions can result in lower productivity too. Canvass opinion and find a temperature that all your staff are comfortable with.
6. Follow your nose
The Takasago Corporation in Japan conducted research that found that certain scents improve typing accuracy. 54% made fewer mistakes when they could smell lemon, 33% fewer with jasmine and 20% with lavender.
7. Go green
Bringing plants into the office can increase people’s attention span, reduce stress and improve productivity. Some studies have even found that they help reduce absence by up to 50%, and minor illnesses by as much as 33%.
8. Dynamic spaces
Ensuring people don’t feel confined is essential for helping them tap in to their creative side. Simply installing Wi-Fi across your office and creating break-out areas can make it more dynamic, improving wellbeing and boosting creativity.
