Virtual reality and 3D modelling: Broadening Horizons

28 July 2016. News.

Following success earlier in the year, Peldon Rose welcomed back three students from Kingston University’s Broadening Horizons programme to present their findings on how virtual reality and 3D modelling is transforming how businesses go about designing their new workspace.

The aim of the Broadening Horizons project was to give hands-on experience and increase the confidence and aspirations of Kingston University students, by creating parity between how students view SMEs and corporate employers. This is key as 90% of Kingston University graduates secure graduate employment with SMEs upon completion of their studies.

Working together in consultancy teams and researching solutions to specific challenges, we challenged students to consider what technology and new ways of working would be valuable to our organisation and help our clients through the early stages of designing their new office.

The results of the partnership with the Broadening Horizons programme has seen us expand the use of virtual reality into our business and enhance the way we work with 3D visualisations. This new technology has already been a huge asset to our business and has helped to enhance the way we market our services.

Second-year sociology with psychology student Tommy Evensen said of his experience: “I have developed leadership skills, and developed in project management, marketing and using new technologies. I feel that the programme has given me a great insight into working life and it has introduced me to industry people that can help me with my future prospects.”

Benjamin Murray, Head of Marketing at Peldon Rose said: “I’d like to extend an enormous thank you to all the students who took part in the project and particularly to Sam Gerrard at the University for developing this programme which gives students such invaluable experience. From the three project teams which worked with us, we have already implemented a number of their ideas to help us and our clients create some even more amazing work spaces”.
